Abstract
The population of the
study included all
professional librarians
within the University of
Ghana Library System (UGLS).
The study used a
well-structured
questionnaire containing
12 items questions
designed to elicit
information on
perceptions of preferred
leadership qualities in

Professional librarians
at the University of
Ghana are very sensitive
about their relationship
with, and leadership
characteristics of the
University of Ghana
Library System (UGLS).
They prefer leadership
that is innovative,
inspiring, receptive to
ideas, forward looking
with a sense of
direction and
well-defined orientation
towards the future of
the library, as well as
enhance their promotion
and career progression.
